Hygrophila pinnatifida

Hygrophila pinnatifida is an attractive aquatic plant originating from India, valued for its unique coloration and versatile growth habit. The leaves develop a brown, mottled surface with a striking burgundy underside, creating strong visual contrast in aquascapes.
When the top shoots are regularly pinched, the plant produces multiple horizontal side shoots, resulting in a compact and well-branched form. These lateral shoots readily attach to driftwood and rocks, making the plant suitable for both traditional planting and epiphytic placement.
Growth is moderate, with stems reaching 15–40 cm in height and spreading 10–20 cm wide. Hygrophila pinnatifida looks especially appealing when planted in small groups against a plain background, where its colors stand out most effectively.
Intense lighting helps maintain compact growth and enhances coloration, complementing the plant’s slow to medium growth rate.
