Microsorum pteropus, commonly known as Java Fern, is a hardy aquatic fern native to Asia. Supplied in a 5 cm pot, this plant typically grows 15–30 cm tall, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of aquarium sizes.

For best results, Java Fern should be attached to driftwood or stones using fishing line or thread until it naturally anchors itself. If placed in the substrate, take care not to bury the rhizome, as this can cause rotting and damage the plant.

This species is well known for its durability and adaptability, thriving in virtually all aquarium conditions and requiring minimal maintenance. Propagation is simple and effective by dividing the horizontal rhizome.

Dark spots that may appear on the underside of the leaves are sporangia (reproductive organs) and are completely natural. These are often mistaken for disease but are a normal part of the plant’s life cycle.
