Kordon Rid Ich Plus
Kordon Rid·Ich Plus® is a professional-strength chemical treatment formulated to control Ich (white spot disease) and a wide range of external protozoan, dinoflagellate, and fungal fish diseases. Suitable for both freshwater and saltwater fish, it is trusted by aquaculture professionals, public aquariums, and hobbyists alike.
Originally developed decades ago for institutional use, Rid·Ich Plus® remains the foremost scientifically developed chemical treatment for Ich, refined over time for improved safety and effectiveness.
Key Benefits
Controls Ich (white spot disease) and other external parasitic infections
Effective against protozoan, dinoflagellate, and fungal diseases
Suitable for freshwater and saltwater fish
Will not harm biological filtration when used as directed
Often shortens treatment time compared to malachite green or formalin alone
Made in the USA
Broad-Spectrum Disease Control
Rid·Ich Plus® targets many common and serious fish diseases caused by external parasites, including:
Ichthyophthirius (Ich / White Spot Disease)
Costia
Trichodina
Chilodonella
Marine parasites such as Cryptocaryon and Amyloodinium
External fungal infections
Advanced Dual-Action Formula
Rid·Ich Plus® combines two proven medications for enhanced efficacy:
Zinc-free malachite green chloride salt (0.038%), which binds to disease-causing organisms and disrupts their metabolism
U.S.P. formalin (4.26%), a powerful reducing agent that denatures parasite cell proteins
This combination allows for lower formalin concentrations, reducing stress on fish while maintaining strong therapeutic action.
Fish Safety & Compatibility
Demonstrated to be reasonably safe for species sensitive to malachite green alone
Generally well tolerated by scaleless fish such as loaches and catfish
Not recommended for Mormyrids (elephant nose fish), which may be highly sensitive to malachite green
Carefully observe fish during treatment and discontinue use if signs of stress occur
Oxygen & Temperature Considerations
Formalin-based treatments can reduce dissolved oxygen levels. Rid·Ich Plus® minimizes this risk by using a lower formalin concentration, but fish should still be closely monitored for respiratory distress.
⚠️ Do not raise water temperature during treatment unless adequate oxygenation is provided, as warmer water holds less oxygen.
