io-Stratum is made from 100% natural, mineral-rich volcanic soil sourced from Mount Aso in Japan and is infused with beneficial nitrifying bacteria to deliver immediate biological activity in freshwater planted aquariums. This advanced substrate is designed to help establish stable water conditions quickly while supporting long-term plant health.
Featuring lightweight, non-compacting 1 mm powder granules, Bio-Stratum allows even the finest and most delicate plant roots to penetrate and spread easily throughout the porous substrate. As roots develop, plants absorb a powerful blend of nutrients, minerals, and trace elements that promote rapid growth, vibrant coloration, and overall vitality.
The porous structure encourages extensive colonization of beneficial bacteria, providing additional biological filtration and improving water quality. Once submerged, the dormant nitrifying bacteria activate to break down waste, rapidly reducing ammonia levels and helping kickstart the nitrogen cycle—especially beneficial for new aquarium setups.
